Details

Dear Dedicated and Serving Fellow Veterans:

I want to urge you to attend the Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus meeting this Saturday, May 10 in Fairfield. The small storefront church on the east side of the town square is easy to find, but if you get lost, I will keep my cell phone on! We have lots of important business and announcements!

What momentum we have! I talked with the state rules committee chair at a speaking event (veterans, of course!) in Cedar County. He stated that the rules committee members have been so taken with our activity at district conventions that they thought we were constitutionally higher than we now are, with IDVC chair to be elected by the full state convention. I told him that we liked it just the way we are.

And, on that note, I need to announce that this will be my last meeting as chair. I had mentioned to some of you that I was considering a job in Dubai. For economic reasons, I decided to accept, and will be there for 2 years before returning to Iowa. I regret that I can no longer serve you in this capacity. This has been one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling positions that I have ever had, and the enthusiasm of our Democratic vets has been a sight to behold. More on this at the meeting . . .

"The meetings are necessary to maintain continuity and momentum. If we try conference calls, web-cams, etc. I'm afraid the organization will suffer. Nothing suffices for face to face contact and interaction. I realize travelling is getting more expensive, but anything worthwhile requires different types of expenditures."
